This conference will provide 8 intensive workshops from practitioners and acclaimed authors, as well as keynote lectures. Overall, this conference will provide tools to help attendees build racial literacy and develop antiracist practices that they can use in their classrooms, schools, and districts. More specifically, the conference will include workshops that will examine how the past and current structures in education uphold oppressions and inequity and keynotes from Dr. Ibram X Kendi, Dr. Bettina Love, and Dr. Gholdy Muhammad.

As former public school educator and current educator and teacher trainer at UNT, attendance at this event will help me build competence to assist the university in its' pursuit of justice at all levels in the university (particularly, the classroom). It will also give me the ability to shift my own pedagogy to impart similar practices to the educators that I am teaching, as well as assist others in my unit toward the same goal. Given the long overdue need for such critical inquiry, this conference will help support my continued growth as a scholar and educator so I might better serve our ever diversifying student body. Indeed, as a white male educator serving at a minority-serving institutions, this conference will give me the tools to de-center whiteness within my own courses and start building a networks with others in pursuit of a similar mission.
